要是留著你 / IF [I WAS] TO RETAIN YOU

要是留著你 / IF [I WAS] TO RETAIN YOU is an experimental documentary operating simultaneously across three screens. It follows two local Hong Kongers contemplating the possibility of leaving the city, and a young Canadian returning from abroad. A collaboration between Vancouver and Hong Kong artists, the footage was filmed during the 20th anniversary of the 1997 “Handover.”

The work is examines the stagnant time between the 2014 Umbrella Movement and the 2019 Pro-Democracy protests spurred by the now infamous “Extradition Bill.”

This experimental film can be presented live in theatre, gallery exhibition spaces, and cinemas where the 3 screen format is available.
